about

I'd always wanted to release an album. It's one of things you dream of as a kid.
For years I'd had melodies and sounds in my head but no real method of getting them out into the world. Sure, I strummed along on an acoustic guitar but until I got my first computer nothing was ever recorded. Gradually software began to get more sophisticated allowing any old budding musician to record at home. So I messed around, creating an awful lot of bits and pieces, scraps of ideas until they started to sound a little better, a little more 'proper'. People told me it sounded quite good ("really?"). The internet helped bedroom composers like me throw their music to the world with comparitive ease. Finally I could do what I'd always wanted to do - release an album that people could actually buy and/or listen to anywhere in the world.
"Honest Blundering" is my first attempt at music making. The title comes from a legal case where someone in debt was judged to be 'honest blundering', i.e. not deliberately meaning to screw-up, they just didn't know what they were doing. I thought it would be an apt title for my first attempt at an album.
At this early stage vocals weren't even considered an option, this was to be a strictly instrumental affair. My idea was to create pop songs where the melodies, instead of being sung, where carried musically with what ever sound I could get out of the machine. Listening back now, even though it was only 3 years ago, it sounds quite lo-fi but I like to think that adds to it's charm! There's some definite High Llamas influences there and some attempts at some Brian Wilson-esque chord changes, and even though it still sounds very home-made I'm still proud of it.
