I wanted this album to be a lot different to the last one I recorded, “Everybody’s Shouting…”, so no vocals on this one and less guitar. I had the idea that this would be like a film soundtrack - a soundtrack to an imaginary film. I wanted use a lot of the same instruments and feel throughout, so there’s a lot of mellotron, vibraphone and vintage synths. I’m inspired by music from 1960s & 70s Italian films from composers such as Ennio Morricone and Piero Piccioni, and I’m also a big John Barry fan, so I’ve tried to have the feel of those inspirations. I also wanted to give the rhythms a slight edge and so I have a little bit of a ‘trip-hop’ influence there in the some of the drums.
So, let me introduce you to “Dutch Tilt” - an imaginary soundtrack, I’m quite proud of this one, I hope you enjoy it.
